Melissa Owens Smith is a Scenic Designer who has a passion for collaborating with others to create a unique visual experience.  Smith immerses herself in all aspects of the design process from concept design to sound engineering & technical direction.

Before receiving her degree from UNCSA in Scene Design, Smith worked as the resident Designer and Technical Director for Mill Creek High School. There she over saw eight shows including Alice In Wonderland which won second place at the state wide One-Act competition. While working for MCHS she also took part time jobs as a booking agent, sound engineer and traveling musician; any work in the entertainment arts Smith was eager to be apart of.

While attending the exclusive arts conservatory, Smith opened a family business where she gutted and redesigned the existing dry cleaner and transformed it into a beer growler shop. This experience fueled her passion for design and she learned that she had a zeal for project management.

Smith plans on translating her variety of skills in interior design, theatrical design and construction to Concert Production Design, Exhibition Design and Themed Entertainment.

She loves her family, a good imperial stout, Bill Withers, Birdtalker, and playing guitar.  Thanks to her 5 year old she has extensive knowledge about dinosaurs and aquatic animals. Most importantly, she believes in creating spaces that open people's eyes to the humanity around them and create connection.
